“Instagram’s only for the popular kids.”

“I’ve missed the boat, there are too many people there already and they all seem to have a gazillion followers.”

“I’ve given it a go but no matter what I do my account doesn’t grow and I’m struggling to reach the right people.”

Any of these statements sound familiar?

I’ve come across all of these and more when I’ve been talking to my lovely crowd about Instagram and it’s clear to me that, although many of you want to be using Instagram and feel that it could benefit your business, there’s a worry that you’re too late to get on board.

Have you missed the boat? Let’s take a look…

Instagram now has over 800 million users and that number is growing by the day. It also has over 300 million people using Instagram Stories every single day (that’s more than double the number of daily users on Snapchat!). And with all the recent changes to Facebook, along with the downward trajectory of organic reach, more and more businesses are turning their attention to Instagram too.

So we know that Instagram is massively popular, and that’s part of its appeal right? People are hanging out there, so there’s the potential to reach your target audience and grow your business.

But, does that also mean that there are far too many people on there already and you don’t stand a chance of standing out?

The short answer is no!

There is still ample opportunity for you to make your mark on Instagram and use the platform to grow your business.

Like any other platform or marketing vehicle, there will always be someone else offering something similar to you and trying to reach a similar, perhaps even the same, audience as you. But that’s not to say that you can’t reach that audience and stand out.

As musician Dave Grohl put it so well: “No one is you and that is your power.”

In so far as Instagram is concerned, the platform is evolving as it grows in popularity. In fact, I’d go as far as to say that it’s leading the charge of Social Media 2.0 – a new, and hopefully improved, generation of social media platforms.

What’s more, I am seeing so many untapped opportunities for businesses to make the most of their Instagram accounts!

If you want to make your Instagram account a success, then it’s no use trying to copy what the “established” Instagrammers are already doing. That is a surefire way to blend in.

Instead, I challenge you to make it your own! Yes, look at what’s already going on over on Instagram and what seems to be working well right now. But then try to add your own twist.

A little creativity goes a long, long way and creativity is the name of this game! It’s not about reinventing the wheel but, rather, putting your own stamp on it.

So, no you’re not behind and you’re not too late to join the party. There is an audience there, ready and waiting for you to show up. Now it’s time for you to step in and shine
