If you’re starting out on Facebook and looking at setting up a Page for your business, then this blog post is for you!  I’m going to talk you through the 5 simple steps to follow that will get your Facebook marketing off to a flying start!

1. Make a fantastic first impression!

The very first thing people will see when they land on your Facebook Page is your profile picture and cover photo. This is a great opportunity to grab their attention, communicate what your Page is about and create a memorable first impression.

Bear in mind that your profile picture will also appear next to all of your posts in the Newsfeed. Think carefully about whether you will use a logo or a picture of yourself – bearing in mind that people often connect more freely when they feel they are engaging with a person, rather than a brand.

As for your cover photo – less is more. Rather than going overboard with lots of text on the cover photo, focus on the visual and consider including one short, snappy tagline about your business / Page.  If you have more than one message you’d like to share on the cover photo then you might consider using a slideshow or video cover.

2. Choose the best-fit Page category

Don’t overthink this one and know that you can change your category again at a later date if you need to.  For now, look for the best fit category for your business as this will help your Page to be discovered.

3. Complete the about section

Before you get carried away with posting, take some time to complete the about section on your Page. Don’t rush through it; think carefully about what your audience will want to hear and how you can show them that they are in the right place.

Completing your about section will increase your chances of new people finding your Page and will help you to convert more visitors into ‘likes’.

The Story section, in particular, will be displayed prominently on your Page. For more tips on how to update this section of your Page and really make the most of it, check out >> this video tutorial <<

4. Prepare to post…

Whilst you’re probably in a hurry to start getting people to hit that like button on your Page, you need to have some content ready and waiting for when they arrive.

A great place to start when you’re posting to your Facebook Page for the first time is by introducing yourself and your business; whether that be in a text post, with some text and an image or even in a video, the choice is yours. That’s then a great post to pin to the top of your Page so that it is the first thing people see when they land on your Page.

5. Start attracting followers!

Now that you have your Page set up for success, you are going to want to start attracting an audience.

There are many, many ways that you can begin to attract those all-important “likes” but the key to keep in mind is that if you’re not talking about it then no-one will know that your Page exists.  It’s not enough to create a Page and then sit back and wait for the crowds to come to you.  YOU need to start spreading the word!

So, invite your friends and family (if it’s relevant to them), share news of your new Page in Facebook Groups, add a link to your website, if you have an email list then let your subscribers know…
